After weeks of going back and forth, Twitter as accepted Elon Musk’s offer to buy all the company’s shares for a reported $44 billion.
This marks a shift for the social media company as Musk plans to move it from publicly traded to private, meaning he’ll be solely in control of it and it’ll be interesting to see how well it works out for him if at all.
Twitter has been losing users for years and has been labeled as a toxic environment as they’ve silenced users they didn’t agree with for various reasons.
One example is blocking or suspending the users mentioned above, and one of them was President Donald Trump when he was a sitting president and allowing hate groups to remain unchecked.
Add to that alleged shadow banning and other actions to limit users reach and the site more toxic to many.
Musk has long been a proponent of free speech, and he’s promised to return the platform to one that allows all opinions to be shared.
If he’ll actually follow through with that is something we’ll have to wait and see.

The backlash starts
Those that aren’t happy with this transaction have sworn to leave the site, and have even started sharing and urging people to stop using Twitter Blue and other services that bring the company an income.
Others have labeled Musk by various terms that aren’t endearing as he’s become a target for unraveling what many considered a safe space for their views.
Over the years, Twitter has become a “safe haven” of sorts for the online woke segment of the population, and it’s been used as an effective tool to share their ideas.
Now, assuming those that were previously banned return, they’ll have to share the space or go elsewhere.
However things work out, for the time being Musk has created a stir for simply wanting to allow people to share their ideas, whether or not they agree with him.
It’s going to be interesting to see how many follow through on their threats and leave twitter or remain once the dust has settled.
