That is according to author Celia Walden. Meghan’s initial grievances towards the institution were expressed in her Oprah Winfrey interview.
She disclosed several major bombshells including the thought of being driven to suicide, as well as the fact that her son Archie had been subjected to racist remarks.
But things did not get any softer after that, as shown by Meghan’s actions. She has yet to return to the UK with Prince Harry ever since they left the Royal family in 2020.
This has included missing out on major events such as Prince Philip’s funeral, the Queen’s birthday, as well as the obvious fact that the monarch has yet to see Lilibet.
And by adopting this stand-off approach, it has backfired on Meghan due to the popularity that the Queen has in the United States.
In an interview with ‘Good Morning Britain, Celia said: “[Meghan is a] figure of fun [and] made a crucial misstep. I thought maybe people would be protective of her out here, but not at all.
“Anyone who is deemed to have affronted the Queen, or behaved badly in that regard, is just not going to go down well.”
Despite Celia’s comments, it is important to bear in mind that Meghan is competing with the brand of the Royal family. And her public perception is not going to change overnight, given she has had only 2 years since her exit to make a name for herself.
In addition, the recent Royal Caribbean tour conducted by Prince William and Kate Middleton also demonstrated that the current Royal members are not popular. The response on social media was mixed.
A certain subset of people felt that the criticism was harsh, whilst others believed that Meghan was simply trying to capitalize on her career in whatever way.
