Prince Harry opened up on the topic of mental health, as his focus turned towards the concept of therapy, without which The Duke of Sussex claims he was going to lose Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry Talks All Things Therapy-‘If I Didn’t Do Therapy…I Was Going To Lose This Woman’
After having been in the United States for around two years, Harry has developed an understanding of how mental health is viewed in the UK in comparison to the US.
And as part of that process, Harry was engaged in a conversation with BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux. It is for the former company that Harry has become a Chief Impact Officer, where his work is focused on mental health.
So when the issue of therapy came up, Harry revealed how the cultural differences between the two countries have made therapy viewed negatively in the UK.
In his comments, Harry said: “You talk about it here in California, ‘I’ll get my therapist to call your therapist. Whereas in the UK it’s like, ‘Therapist? What therapist? Whose therapist? I don’t have a therapist.”
These comments are very significant for the following reasons. First of all, it may explain Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to only come out with their bombshell remarks in their Oprah Winfrey interview when they were far away from the UK.
Secondly, Harry has been in therapy himself. This is understandable given that he had to witness Meghan contemplate the thought of being driven to having suicidal thoughts, as per her disclosure in the Oprah interview.
And now that they are happily settled in the states, it would make more sense for Harry to get the help he needs here, without as according to him, being judged in a particular way.
In his show ‘The Me You Can’t See,’ Harry previously stated how he was forced to address his demons. He stated: “I had a fear of — when I first went to therapy — a fear of losing.
“It was meeting and being with Meghan, I knew that if I didn’t do therapy and fix myself, that I was going to lose this woman who I could see spending the rest of my life with.”
