Kaalan Walker—best known for his role as Juju in 2018’s SuperFly—has been convicted on eight out of eleven counts of sexual assault. He was found guilty of three counts of forcible rape, two counts each for statutory rape and rape by intoxication, and one count of assault to commit oral copulation.
The three counts that he managed to avoid involved two counts of forcible rape and one for digital penetration.
“SuperFly” Actor Kaalan Walker Convicted on 8 Counts of Sexual Assault
In speaking with USA Today, his lawyer Andrew Flier said that Kaalan Walker is innocent of the charges and “did not receive a fair trial as many important issues were excluded by the Court.” Flier described the accusers as liars who were targeting Walker for being duped by him.
“The pattern of Mr. Walker is to make false promises and they bought it. Each one of these women voluntarily made their own decisions. He didn’t force them. It’s payback to Mr. Walker and we’re not going to let that happen.”
Note that the victims included seven women and three teens. The “B.S” Flier is referring to involved Walker using the opportunity of access to his entertainment industry connections and possibly even work to lure the accused in. According to the prosecution, Walker began preying on the accused in 2013 via Instagram and Twitter. One lie Walker used is that he personally knew Toronto artist Drake. The assaults took place over two years.
Flier did see a silver lining in the sentencing as the three counts that slipped through the prosecution’s net have him confident that the sentence could be overturned during an appeal. Kaalan Walker is expected back in court on Sunday, May 27 for another trial involving aggravating factors in the case.
