The New Day are looking for vengeance here tonight at Wrestlemania 38. Big E will be watching from home with a broken neck, after being dropped on his head by Ridge Holland weeks ago. It’ll be Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods taking on Ridge Holland & Sheamus – who have Butch (Pete Dunne) in their corner tonight. It’s rare that New Day are outnumbered, but this will be the case tonight. This match was originally booked for last night, but was moved due to ‘time constraints’.
The New Day Get Run Down At Wrestlemania
New Day would pay tribute to Big E by mirroring the gear he won the WWE Championship in. Sheamus & Holland would strike fast, beating them down as they hit the ring. Woods would send Sheamus to the outside, before Holland would toss him out. Kofi Kingston would nail Holland with Trouble In Paradise, but Sheamus yanked him out of the ring.
Butch tried to help, before Sheamus would carry him away. In the ring, Woods would nail a sliding reverse STO, before Kingston dove into a Brogue Kick at ringside. In the ring, Woods would nail a superkick, before Butch distracted the referee. Sheamus nailed the Brogue Kick, and Holland nailed Northern Grit for the win.
After the bell, Butch got some blows in, before being yanked off Woods. This was a quick match but a hyper physical one – and the issue seems far from over.
Vince McMahon Takes A Selfie With Austin Theory
Pat McAfee was promised a match at Wrestlemania 38 by Vince McMahon himself. For a while, it looked like we might have seen Vince step into the ring once again. However, it would instead be Austin Theory who steps up to take on McAfee. They’ve been trading blows for weeks now, and after getting to call the action on Wrestlemania last night, McAfee will step beyond and have his second singles match in WWE history.
Vince McMahon himself would make his way to the ring, and would introduce his protege and future WWE Universal Champion – Austin Theory! Interesting wording from Vince, perhaps spoiling the main event – which will see Roman Reigns & Brock Lesnar clash in a winner takes all match. Theory would take a selfie with Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania.
Pat McAfee would hit the ring with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders behind him and Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes blasting. Despite Theory still feeling like a rookie and McAfee mainly being a commentator, this one had a big match feel from these entrances alone.
Pat McAfee Gets His Wrestlemania Moment
McAfee would get off to a hot start, nailing some fast punches to cut Theory down. A chop to the throat would follow, dropping McAfee. Theory would stomp him out, before McAfee would nail a jumping back elbow and hurricanrana.
McAfee took too long to brag, and Theory nailed a backbreaker. Theory would nail a fast suplex, before McAfee was able to nail one of his own. Sent to the apron, Theory would be then launched off the apron and to the announce table.
McAfee would get the headset on, and call some action as he slammed the head of Theory off the announce desk. Back in the ring, McAfee looked for the Swanton Bomb, but Theory was able to dodge. Theory would land a spinning backdrop, but only got a two count.
McAfee caught Theory on the top rope, and nailed a superplex. Theory would be able get the edge again, before looking for the A Town Down. McAfee blocked into a roll up – and claimed the win at Wrestlemania!
Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee?!
After the match, he’d call Vince McMahon into the ring. Vince would start to disrobe while glaring at McAfee. He had his classic black tanktop on, and a referee called for the bell. Theory had attacked from behind, and Vince would take advantage.
He’d throw McAfee face first into the turnbuckle, but would give McAfee a chance to recover. Theory would yank the leg of McAfee, before pulling him into the post. He’d pass McMahon a football, and he’d kick it into the ribs of McAfee with it after teasing some punts for the win. Vince McMahon won a Wrestlemania match in 2022. Let that sink in. Finally, the glass would shatter on this celebration and Stone Cold Steve Austin hit the ring. We wouldn’t get another match, but Theory ate a quick stunner and Vince would follow suit after sharing a beer with Stone Cold.
