CM Punk has been on a roll since returning to professional wrestling, and has been viewed as a hero to AEW fans. He’s built himself up as a contender for the AEW World Championship, only having lost a single match during his time with the company. However, Hangman Page knows the real CM Punk. The CM Punk who is a snake waiting to bite, the CM Punk who doesn’t respect AEW.
Hangman Page and the men who built AEW were working their asses off, while CM Punk sat at home. Tonight, Page isn’t just defending the AEW World Championship, but also AEW as a whole from CM Punk. He’s defeated Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, and Lance Archer so far in his reign – but can Page beat the self proclaimed ‘Best in the World’?
Best In The World vs. The AEW World Champion
These two would lock eyes and butt heads as this match began, before Page shoved Punk off. He’d be taken to the ropes, before a clean break. Punk would take some strikes, before driving Page into the corner and scraping the forearm across the head.
Shoulder tackle would fail to stagger Punk, before they’d trade chops in the middle of the ring. Page hit a rolling elbow in the corner, before stomping Punk out. Punk would chop away at the back of Page, before a hammer throw into the corner. Scoop slam would land by Punk, before he’d head up top.
Crossbody would be blocked, with Page hitting the Fallaway Slam. Punk rolled to the apron, and Page hit the springboard lariat. Page would take a moment to soak in the biggest crowd in Double or Nothing history, before a rolling elbow to the face of Punk.
Punk was thrown into the corner, before being taken to the floor and taking an apron bomb. Page would take a superplex, before Punk hit the leg lariat. Rising Knee would be followed by the bulldog, and the springboard lariat would land.
CM Punk would look for the sharpshooter, before being countered – but was able to hit the neckbreaker. Page sent Punk to the floor, and nailed the Asai Moonsault from the corner. Back into the ring, a sharpshooter would be applied by Punk, but couldn’t get the submission.
Hangman Page Has Crisis, CM Punk Takes Advantage
Punk looked for the Buckshot Lariat, and Page almost blocked into the Go To Sleep. Page was rolled up, before Punk hit a sloppy buckshot for a two count. GTS from Page was blocked, before he’d hit the powerbomb instead. He’d roll right into Deadeye for a near fall.
Page called for the GTS, but Punk grabbed the top rope. He’d slip off the shoulders and hit the roundhouse, before taking the GTS. Another near fall would follow, before both men threw tired forearm smashes. These two spilled to the outside after a lariat, and Page threw Punk over the announce table.
He’d grab the belt and tell Punk he will never have it. It was placed in the corner of the ring by the referee, as Page looked for the Buckshot lariat. Punk would get him up onto his shoulders, but the spin knocked the referee down. Page would eye the belt, and he’d be ready to cheat in order to beat Punk.
He was conflicted, but didn’t do it. Instead, he’d set up the Buckshot. Punk blocked into the GTS, and we have a new AEW World Champion. Did you expect CM Punk to win tonight? Should Hangman Page have hit Punk in the face with the belt? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
