Britt Baker has always felt there is a conspiracy against her, and tonight that continues. Unlike the six other ladies who qualified for the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, she doesn’t get to know who her first round opponent was. Instead, she drew the joker – and has a mystery opponent tonight. It was a returning Maki Itoh. Since last appearing in AEW, Itoh has genuinely become one of the best wrestlers in TJPW – and looks to show how far he’s come since she once tagged with Britt Baker in 2021.
Britt Baker Defeats The Returning Maki Itoh
They’d hug to start this match, before Itoh laid down for Baker. However, she’d try for a roll up. Baker would hit a forearm smash, and Itoh would fake cry before stomping the boot of Baker. Itoh would hit a running lariat before looking for Kokeshi. Baker dodged and looked for Lockjaw, before Itoh blocked into a pinfall.
A slingblade would follow, before Baker would choke Itoh in the corner. Itoh was dropped with a lariat, but a lazy cover from Baker allowed for a fast kick out. Baker would taunt, and Itoh would start to get fired up. A single underhook suplex would get a two count for Baker, before she got out the glove for Lockjaw.
Baker tried to slam the head of Itoh into the corner, but she’s got one of the hardest heads in the world. She’d headbutt Baker, and nail a Tornado DDT for a near fall. Kokeshi would land, and get a near fall. Itoh took a superkick, before Lockjaw was applied for the finish. Baker will now face Toni Storm for a spot in the finals.
Adam Cole Punches Ticket For Double Or Nothing
Both Adam Cole & Jeff Hardy have been able to get to the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, and tonight only one man will push to the finals. Cole is someone in the prime of his career, while Hardy is firmly framed as a veteran – but someone who has won many World Championships over his career. Will Cole get himself into another big time match, or will Hardy turn back the clock to get the win? Only one way to find out.
Cole would attack Hardy as he was making his way to the ring. Hardy was barely cleared for tonight, and Cole knew to hit fast. Hardy would respond with a scoop slam in the ring, before Cole slipped to the floor. A dive off the apron from Hardy would land, before Cole tossed him into the ring steps. Back in the ring, Cole would hit the backstabber, but Hardy would kick out at two.
Surfboard Stretch would be applied, before Cole hit a running back elbow. Cole would get cocky, and Hardy nailed a Russian Leg Sweep before getting a pinfall for a two count. Hardy threw some glancing blows, before a knee to the midsection. Cole hit the enziguri, before being dropped with a Gordbuster.
Hardy looked for Whisper In The Wind, but took a superkick. Cole dropped the kneepad, before taking the Twist Of Hate, followed by Twist of Fate. Swanton Bomb missed, The Boom did not – Adam Cole is going to the finals.
