When it came to big name signings with WWE for their women’s division, Candice LeRae is often considered one of the best. A 20 year pro, LeRae proved her toughness time and time again on the indies – and brought that to WWE. She stole some shows, had a run as tag team champion, and ended her time in the company by becoming a mother – and is now once again, a free agent.
Candice LeRae Had A Fairly Successful WWE Run
As of earlier this week, the WWE contract of Candice LeRae has officially expired – making her a free agent in the world of professional wrestling. During her time with the company, LeRae claimed the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships alongside Indi Hartwell, competed in the 2019 & 2020 Royal Rumbles, and was on the winning team at Survivor Series 2019 & WarGames 2019.
Her run was fantastic, despite having never claimed the NXT Women’s Champion – a belt she battled for on a few occasions. There was never much interest in a call up to the main roster, and her final match came in July 2021 – shortly before she left TV to prepare to become a mother. Her contract was not frozen while away, and this allowed her to sit out the rest of her WWE deal – while her husband Johnny Gargano finished up around the end of 2021.
The Gargano Family Would Be Welcome In AEW’s Roster
Having just given birth to her child, Quill Gargano, back in February – it’s unclear when, or if – LeRae will return to the ring. If she does have plans to return to the ring however, she has many links to AEW stemming from her time in WWE NXT & on the indies, from the likes of Keith Lee, The Young Bucks, and more.
Likewise, her husband Johnny Gargano has some interest from AEW – but has not decided on what his next move in professional wrestling is. There is a chance he is the mystery entrant into the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
