Nowadays, a missed spot is something that was intended but was skipped over for whatever reason. Maybe the positioning wasn’t right or the time for that moment has passed. A blown spot is something entirely different and unfortunate.
Do You Remember These Counter Spots in WWE?
Then you have something that exists in the middle. It’s a part of a superstar’s routine, so we always expect it. This leans towards being a botched spot but it’s intentionally botched or interrupted. Do you remember these three spots in WWE?
Stone Cold Steve Austin and His Piledriver
There was a time when Stone Cold Steve Austin did piledrivers. They weren’t frequent but he did execute them to completion. Once he arrived in WWE and began to adopt a more roughhousing style, Austin added a spot to his arsenal that you’ve seen but probably thought nothing of it.
He just couldn’t land a piledriver on the outside of the ring. He’d set his guy up in the old standing head scissors and go to lift them but always got backdropped onto the mats. Sometimes, he’d even pull the mats up just fail in executing doomsday for the skull.
The Triple H Flip
This one is something you’ve definitely noticed a lot from Young Triple H and into his “The Game” and “Cerebral Assassin “ eras. It’s pretty simple and is similar to The Flair Flip. Once Triple H is whipped into the corner, he hits in a way that he flips to a sitting position in the corner before falling back into the ring and often getting trucked.
You can expect this one in matches where Triple H really has a motor on him such as his first WrestleMania match against The Undertaker.
Ric Flair Is Gonna Fly
Flying Flair is one we all know. Often if he survives the Flair Flip into the corner and isn’t clotheslined on the apron, Ric Flair will zip across the apron and up the turnbuckles. I mean, regardless of his age, Flair skedaddled up those turnbuckles pretty quickly.
Now at this point, if Flair has made it to the top and he wasn’t knocked off the apron, he’d be cut off by his opponent and slammed to the mat. I’ve only seen the Nature Boy score hi ls crossbody attempt once but when he’s up there, we all expect him to be tossed off the turnbuckles.
