The Rock’s popularity is on an incline ever since he left the WWE and entered the acting business. Without a doubt, he is one of the most popular, if not the most popular actors on the planet. Your guess is correct. We are speaking about Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
He makes his debut in the WWE back in 1996, at only 26 years of age, and faces an immense popularity hit. It is clear from the very beginning that The Rock will have a bright future in the WWE.
Dwayne Johnson Left WWE Because They Forgot To Renew His Contract
And it is so. He becomes one of the most iconic faces that ever took place in the WWE. His incredibly perfect physique, his acting abilities, and the ability to throw in some of the most memorable catchphrases make him one of the greatest WWE stars until this day.
His WWE contract was to expire back in 2004, and he was suddenly gone from the WWE for three whole years. However, until now there is no clear information from the WWE, nor from him of what exactly is the cause of this three-year brake.
Bruce Prichard suddenly, after so many years reveals some things concerning this.
“I do know Vince McMahon’s intent was never to ever let a contract expire with Rock.” – The current Senior Vice President with the professional wrestling promotion WWE says.
But if he wants someone to never leave he should extend his contract, right? Why did the contract face this 3-year resting on the shelf?
The story of why this occurred is one for the headliners. As it happens, the WWE simply ‘forgot’ to extend the contract.
“I wasn’t involved in it, but I guess that somehow it slipped through the cracks. And somehow there is that black hole that somehow we did miss.” – Bruce says.
As we are all aware, the Rock did eventually return to the WWE in 2007. Ever since he makes these periodical appearances. The last one being the one at the 20th Anniversary episode of SmackDown on October 4, 2019.
The first official match that he has however, takes place at the Survivor Series back in November of 2011.
Finally, everyone benefits from his return to the WWE. The organization, the people who follow it and himself, maybe the most. But this story of what causes this brake in his contract is one that is worth sharing and knowing.
Even though WWE is one of the most popular American professional wrestling promotions, and has the unquestionable quality, omissions like this cost money. Cost money to the WWE, and to the stars that feature for the promotion.
