Howie Mandel has revealed that he will take a step back from touring after Dave Chappelle was recently attacked.
Howie Mandel Will Not Tour After Having Become Afraid For His Life Following The Attack On Dave Chappelle-‘I Don’t Wanna Go On Stage’
The comedian had been performing at the Netflix Is A Joke’ festival on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022 when the defendant Isaiah Lee tried to attack him with a replica gun that included a folding blade.
Although Dave did not sustain any injuries, the very fact of the matter is that the incident has highlighted just how dangerous things have become on the comedy circuit.
In an interview on Extra, Howie said: “Watching what happened to Dave last night confirmed my fear. I turned to my wife – I was watching it kind of live on Twitter – and I turned to my wife and I said, ‘I don’t wanna.
“I don’t wanna go on stage. I’m just really afraid.'” Howie’s comments were part of the wider dissatisfaction that has emerged with the way that freedom of speech is being viewed.
And this had all started with the rise of cancel culture, which initially led to people losing their careers over something that they may have said that was taken out of context or unpopular.
But ever since that moment, things have begun to become a whole lot worse. Aside from being canceled, there is the obvious threat that violence can occur.
And this was recently typified when Will Smith had lashed out at comedian Chris Rock simply because the latter had made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.
And this has made Howie question whether comedy is for him. He added: “I’m actually going to do less because the love is not as fervent as it was, you know, six months ago.”
The fans on social media, however, felt that Howie’s comments were causing unnecessary alarm. And in the process of doing so, they called out his comedy skills.
One person wrote: “Howie no one wants to come to your shows do not worry you are safe.” So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
