Attending the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night would have been illogical for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to PR expert Carla Speight.
Harry And Meghan Were Rightly Excluded From The Oscars-Says Carla Speight
According to reports, the Sussexes were invited to host an award at the 2022 Academy Awards, which would have been their first time attending the Oscars. However, this plan was eventually canceled.
This is understandable since the couple have not been the most popular couple since leaving the firm in 2020. They have divided public opinion since their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, as well as with Harry’s memoir Spare.
Therefore, in an attempt to remain neutral, it may not have been the wisest move. In her comments, Carla said: “It makes little sense for Harry and Meghan to be at the Oscars.
“Their documentary wasn’t nominated. Meghan’s not currently acting and I don’t think Harry has any plans to either, though stranger things have happened with them recently.”
During the recent Oscars ceremony, the host Jimmy Kimmel did not make any jokes about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Instead, he made fun of Will Smith for his slap incident with Chris Rock during last year’s ceremony.
Although it’s understandable why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not attend, there is a growing belief that they are not relevant. Meghan is not in the acting profession anymore, while Harry’s connection to the Oscars is not there.
It is also important to note that Harry and Meghan did not go to Oprah’s 69th party. This led to rumors that the entertainment industry was losing interest in the couple.
Not only that, but there was an alleged incident known as the Bafta Tea Party “snub” in which sources reported that the couple was excluded from a fancy BAFTA Tea Party due to concerns that their attendance would create negative publicity.
Carla added: “If they showed up to the Oscars, it would raise many questions as to why and ultimately it wouldn’t be a good look for them as it makes no sense.” The social media response was much the same.
This was on the basis that the couple had to rebrand themselves moving forward in order to establish themselves with some credibility. One person wrote: “None of the Hollywood A-listers wanted them there.
“This was an event for genuinely talented people and those involved in producing quality films and everyone knew that if the Harkles turned up it would only be to try and boost their moribund brand.”
