Since making their debuts in Japan, both Ace Austin & Alex Zayne have been able to win over fans like few others. They’ve also become a tight duo as they’ve gotten to travel the country together. Fans have even took to calling them ‘The Besties Of The Super Juniors’. However, tonight all of that goes to the side – as they battle for some critical points at the midpoint of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament.
Ace Austin & Alex Zayne Leave It All In The Ring
These two would lock up hard, showing there will be no holding back due to their friendship. Zayne would be able to hit a springboard knee drop to the back, before going for the twisting senton. Austin had a counter ready with a roll up, before looking to slice between the fingers of Zayne.
Zayne blocked the first time, tossed the card to a lucky fan – before Austin got him in the same hold and got the slice. He’s always got an ace up his sleeve, and would follow with a backbreaker out of the rope before the Soar to Glory to Zayne on the floor.
Zayne tried to toss Austin back into the ring, only to have Austin use his parkour skills to get right back out. Austin was set up on the apron with a sweep of the legs, before Zayne hit the flipping leg drop to the neck. Back in the ring, Zayne hit a series of senton splashes, before Austin would respond with the double springboard kick.
This gave him time to recover, before taking a heavy lariat from Zayne. Zayne hit a Dragonrana out of the corner, but Austin rolled through into a pinfall of his own. Austin would block the Baja Blast, before taking a kick to the head. Cinnamon Twist was set, but Austin would beg off using their friendship as a distraction before slipping into a roll up.
They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, before Zayne looked for Taco Driver. Austin would escape, before hitting a spinning back kick. The Fold was blocked into Baja Blast, but Zayne was crotched on the top rope as he looked to set up Cinnamon Twist. Zayne was taken off the top and hit with The Fold for the win.
DOUKI Is On A Roll
Since DOUKI appeared in NJPW, he’s had one clear mission – and that is to take down the ‘lucha hipsters’ in the company. In simple terms, those who take the lucha style without having worked for it on the indies in Mexico like himself. This makes BUSHI a mortal enemy for DOUKI, and tonight he looks to get a third singles win over BUSHI and push forward in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament.
DOUKI would quickly send BUSHI to the floor and nailed a reckless dive to follow. BUSHI would crash into the timekeepers table, before being driven head first into the ring post. He’d go crotch first next, before the DOUKI CHOKEY was applied in the ring. BUSHI would fight free before the running hurricanrana sent DOUKI to the floor. BUSHI soared soon after, nearly sending DOUKI into the lap of fans.
Back into the ring, BUSHI hit the DDT – before another right onto the apron. DOUKI CHOKEY was once again applied by DOUKI, but the attempt at Daybreak would be met by the Lungblower. Magic Screw neckbreaker would follow, but DOUKI kicked out. MX was set but DOUKI CHOKEY would be the counter – and it actually got the verbal submission!! DOUKI moves to six points, matching his career best in the tournament.
