NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 29 Results: Clark Connors, Ace Austin, and SHO Claim Opening Tag Match Wins (05/17)

Last time Clark Connors shared the ring with Young Lions from Japan, he was seeking to prove the dominance of the LA Dojo. However tonight, he partners up with Ryohei Oiwa & Kosei Fujita as they take on YOH, Hiroyoshi Tenzen, and Yuto Nakashima. YOH & Connors meet on May 18th, in a tournament match – so tonight is a welcome scouting chance.

Clark Connors Guides His Team To Victory

Connors would start up alongside YOH, and was taken into a wrist lock. YOH would move into a side headlock, before being sent off the ropes. Oiwa & Tenzan hit the ring next, and would trade forearm blows in the middle of the ring. Tenzan won out, before Fuijta & Nakashima got tags. Fujita nailed a big hip toss, before being taken into the corner – and slammed down by YOH.

Tenzan brought further damage with some chops and elbow smashes, before Fuijta hit a dropkick. Oiwa would keep the damage coming, but was unable to pin Tenzan. A big gutwrench suplex would drop Tenzan, before YOH & Connors previewed tomorrows match.

YOH nailed a running elbow smash, before a neckbreaker in the middle of the ring for two. He’d head up top, but missed the dive and was pounced. Spear was scouted, and a dropkick landed instead. Nakashima tagged into the match, and would look to apply the Boston Crab. Connors broke free and nailed a spear, before snap powerslam and Trophy Kill for the win.

Ace Austin Folds TAKA Michinoku Up

Ace Austin was able to get the best of Clark Connors in the first match of this years Best of The Super Juniors tournament – and was clearly playing the heel role. However, when he matches up with Yoshinobu Kanemaru tomorrow evening, he’ll be facing The Heel Master. Tonight, Austin has to co-exist with Tiger Mask IV – as they face Kanemaru & TAKA Michinoku in some preview tag team action.

Kanemaru would attack Austin as the bell rang, only to end up in an armbar. Austin used the laminated card to slice the fingers outside the eyes of the referee. Tiger Mask would get beaten down by Michinoku, before Kanemaru went after the mask. Michinoku would follow up with a boot raked across the face.

Tiger Driver would nearly land, before Tiger Mask used his expert kicks to take Suzuki-gun down. Austin would get the tag back into the match, before taking a knee strike from Michinoku. Just Face Lock would be applied, but Austin slipped out and nailed The Fold for the victory.

BULLET CLUB Bust Out Some Dirty Tricks

An unlikely trio of Jado, Alex Zayne, and Ryusuke Taguchi are in action here tonight – as Zayne & Taguchi test their next tournament opponents with SHO & Taiji Ishimori. Taguchi & Ishimori in particular go way back – and Taguchi knows just how to absolutely torment Ishimori – which should be on full display tonight.

Ishimori started alongside Taguchi, and some chain wrestling would see both men show to be equals. Taguchi nailed some hip attacks and dropped all of BULLET CLUB, before a set of B-Triggers. Ishimori would be able to take down Taguchi before laying in some strikes to the face, before Dick Togo would try to force an early pinfall.

SHO would tag in and block the first hip attack, before taking a second to the face. Zayne would tag in and show his skills with a front flip kick to the neck, before launching off Ishimori to take SHO off the top rope with a hurricanrana. Jado tagged in and got some revenge on SHO – nailing Green Killer for a near fall.

Three on one attack set up the OJK attempt, but Ishimori saved SHO. SHO would grab the wrench and distract the referee as Togo choked him out and low blowed Zayne. SHO applied snake bite, and this one was over.

Can Ryusuke Taguchi defeat Taiji Ishimori in tournament action tomorrow? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
