On May 10 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton will embark on a trip to Manchester to formally launch the Glade of Light Memorial. The memorial remembers the 22 people that lost their lives in a terrorist attack that took place at Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017.
Hundreds of people were reportedly hospitalized after terrorist Salman Abedi set off a local bomb at superstar singer Ariana Grande’s show in 2017. It is one of the worst terrorist attacks in British history.

The memorial garden project kicked off in January 2021. Back then, the chief executive of Manchester City Council, Joanne Roney, remarked, “Reaching this point has involved a long and meticulous journey. We made a solemn commitment to honour the 22 people who were killed in that heinous attack and it was important that we took great care to deliver something moving and appropriate.”
Manchester council leader, Sir Richard Leese, also echoed the same sentiments and said that the commemorations of the victims “will endure and Manchester will never forget them”.

According to Kensington Palace, Prince William will deliver a few statements at the garden, which is meant to serve as an area of contemplation and recollection. With his wife by his side, William will also wander through the garden. It is understood that Kate plans to pay her respects by placing bouquets at the site of the tragedy.
This event will be accompanied by a special banquet at Manchester Cathedral, where the Cambridges will meet with the families of those killed and first responders who participated in the response effort following the attack.
