Right now in AEW, they have been given the chance to honour the legacy of one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. AEW has partnered up with the Owen Hart Foundation to run the Owen Hart Memorial Cup. Over the past month, we’ve seen 14 qualifying matches – and the finals are set for Double or Nothing 2022. However, with only seven names announced for both the men and women’s tournaments, we have two mystery entrants – and fans are curious who they could be.
Miro Returning For Owen Hart Memorial Cup Could Be Better Than A New Surprise Debut In AEW
When it comes to the mens tournament, ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe will face this mystery opponent. Names like Johnny Gargano, KUSHIDA & Cesaro have all come to the minds of fans, all having recently made exits from WWE – and not making major appearances yet. While another debut could add even more hype to this tournament, bringing an injured name from the AEW roster back would be even better.
This is where former TNT Champion Miro comes into play. He was taken out of action around Full Gear 2022, but has reportedly been ready to return for several months. AEW has been looking for a way to factor him into the mix since then, and having him return to face Samoa Joe would be a great way to do so. They have only had one singles encounter, back in 2018 on an episode of WWE Smackdown Live.
Britt Baker Will Have The Mystery Opponent To Deal With
On the women’s side of things, former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker is the one set to face a mystery opponent. Fans have speculated this could be a name from the Stardom roster, a sister company to NJPW – who AEW are working closely with. We could also see a debut, with names like Athena (fka Ember Moon in WWE) or Nixon Newell being potential options.
There’s less clear options on this side of things, and it will likely remain a closely guarded mystery until the match airs on an episode of Dynamite or Rampage. Who do you think will face Samoa Joe & Britt Baker? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
