Hangman Page suffered a heavy loss to CM Punk in the main event of Double Or Nothing. He’s no longer the AEW World Champion, and has to work through the mental issues a loss like that could cause. This week on AEW Dynamite, NJPW has sent David Finlay to face down Page, and this close to Forbidden Door? A win here for Finlay could be huge for his career.
Will Ospreay Leads United Empire In Another Attack On FTR & Trent Beretta
Before this match, Trent Barretta would hit the ring with something on his mind and microphone in hand. He’s bummed out, because it’s national best friends day and his friends aren’t here. Add in that two weeks ago, him and Rocky Romero were screwed from their ROH World Tag Team Championship shot by Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb of the NJPW roster.
FTR are fighting champions however, and they’d hit the ring with the designs on making things right. They didn’t sit well with the non-finish, as that doesn’t prove they’re the best tag team on the planet. FTR can’t give the match because Romero isn’t here, but Trent should be mad at Will Ospreay’s grunts.
Suddenly the music of Will Ospreay would hit, and the leader of the United Empire was here. Aaron Henare & Aussie Open were here as well, and alongside Ospreay beat down FTR & Beretta – with Ospreay nailing Hidden Blade to Beretta for the finish. A message was sent here, and the United Empire are not making friends in AEW.
Hangman Page & David Finlay Give A Back and Forth Brawl Of A Match
Page & Finlay would lock up hard in the middle of the ring, before Page hit the running shoulder tackle. Finlay shot back with a dropkick, before going after the arm of Page. He’d wear the arm down a bit, but not enough to prevent a bodyslam.
Page would hit the high boot to the side of the head on Finlay, sending him to the floor. The dive would follow, crushing Finlay into the barricade. Back in the ring, Finlay hit the chop block, but was kicked out of the ring as he tried to hit a hip drop.
Page would get baited in and trapped with the ring skirt, before being hit with a flurry of strikes. Back in the ring, Finlay would ground Page with some heavy strikes, but was unable to keep the former AEW World Champion down. A lariat would drop Finlay on the apron, before Page hit the vaulting body press.
Deadeye was blocked into a chokebreaker, but Page kicked out at two. Finlay would block a Fallaway Slam into the Small Package, before a rolling elbow. Page would respond with a lariat, before setting up the Buckshot for the win.
After the bell, Page grabbed the microphone and said there’s a lot on his mind about the AEW World Championship. But tonight is not the night, as he’s clearly not getting a shot anytime soon. However, there is more than one world championship. He wants Okada at Forbidden Door. Adam Cole would claim that Page doesn’t deserve the shot more than him,
