Lately, Adam Cole has not been seen as often in the ring for AEW. He’s still on TV quite often, having shown up recently to distract Hangman Page as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jay White snuck in to attack. However, Cole was angling for a shot at White, but was told he didn’t deserve a shot. This might have been due to Cole being injured, and potentially could miss Forbidden Door.
Adam Cole Has Been Working Through A Labrum Injury
Recently, we got a vague report that Adam Cole was injured – without specific details. He was simply reported to be injured, and could be kept out of the ring until at least Forbidden Door. We now know more specifics, with Cole having been working through a labrum injury since his title program with Hangman Page.
Fightful would report that while they’ve heard it was torn off the bone, but had zero confirmation on this. Regardless, working the high profile matches with Hangman Page, including a Texas Deathmatch with a torn labrum is something that shows the dedication and toughness of Cole.
Having Cole Wrestle Less Might Be Key
AEW is wise to give him time to rest up before another big match, especially as Cole is not someone who needs to wrestle weekly. Fans have actually been tired of seeing Cole in action so often, as most of his matches seem to follow the same rigid formula. He’s one of the best talkers in the company, and can really carry a feud up to a big match with just cutting promos alone.
Having Cole wrestle less often will help keep him healthy, while making his matches mean something. While AEW rankings do mean he needs to claim victories to get title shots, very few are hoping to see him challenge for the AEW World Championship again in 2022 after two back to back attempts earlier this year.
