With all of the news surrounding the WWE the last few days, the news that Vince McMahon stepped down as Chairman and CEO of the WWE was a surprise, but an even bigger one was Stephanie McMahon being named as interim CEO and Chairwoman.
What made this surprising was how she left the company a month ago to spend time with her family, and there were reports it was because of poor performance as the WWE was growing as fast as expected, and that was followed by rumors that she was buried backstage.
Dave Meltzer is reported as saying that Stephanie left her position knowing the investigation was happening, but it’s unclear and unknown if the two are connected.
Billion Dollar Princess to Billion Dollar Queen – Stephanie McMahon Accepts New Role as Interim WWE CEO
It could be argued that Vince had her leave to distance her from the investigation so she could take over in a worst case scenario.
It seems similar to the steroid trial when Linda McMahon took over the company and it was believed Vince would run it from prison if the trial went against him.
Either way, Stephanie’s now interim CEO and she shared her thoughts on taking the position on Twitter:
“Until the conclusion of the investigation into recent allegations, I am honored to assume the role of interim Chairwoman & CEO. I love @WWE and all it continues to do to entertain billions around the world.”

Vince’s favorite
It seems natural that Stephanie would step in to replace Vince as he was reported as saying she was his personal pick because her energy level is similar to his.
While there are other aspects that qualify her for the job as well, that stuck with us because it put the heir apparent Triple H on the back burner.
As it currently stands, Stephanie will run the company, with Vince’s quiet guidance most likely, and Vince will officially remain at the head of WWE Creative.
The show must go on
It’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out, and since the WWE is a publicly traded company there’s every chance that Vince will lose his position entirely and Stephanie will most likely remain in the CEO and Chairwoman seat.
She’s capable of running the company, and it’d allow Triple H to move to the head of creative. Maybe even sharing the role with Paul Heyman.
However this works out, the show will go on with or without Vince running the company, and it’ll either be the beginning of a new era or the end of one of the greatest runs in pro wrestling history.
