The wrestling world is still trying to process the latest news surrounding Jeff Hardy. Yesterday morning, he was pulled over by police, and revealed to be driving while drunk – with a report .298 blood alcohol level, well above the 0.08 legal limit. WarnerMedia has since instructed AEW to remove Hardy from any and all promotional material, and while he’s posted his bail to get out of jail, his court date looms. Now, Booker T is calling for AEW to shoulder some of the blame.
Booker T Feels AEW Should Take Some Responsibility For Jeff Hardy
On the latest episode of his “Hall Of Fame” podcast, Booker T would give his thoughts on the Jeff Hardy DUI situation. While discussing the potential five year prison sentence of Jeff Hardy, Booker T would be quoted saying the following.
“People are going to say, ‘Man, he deserves it.’ I’ve seen comments already saying AEW didn’t put the drink in his hand and didn’t put the keys in his hand and make him drive. Yeah, they didn’t, but I think AEW has some responsibility to bear because you go back and look at the compilation of death defying dives Jeff Hardy has pulled off since arriving in AEW, and I’m gonna tell you right there that pain comes along with that. When you’ve got pain, a lot of times you will go and drink or take drugs to numb the pain, and therefore, damn it, I just relapsed. Did he try to do it? Probably not. But that’s what people with addiction do. So they do have some responsibility to bear here.”
Jeff Hardy Was Pulling Major Stunts In Just About Every AEW Match
It’s hard to deny the point of Booker T here. Jeff Hardy is well known for his daredevil style, but in his age and condition, allowing him to jump off building supports or take large falls off ladders is something AEW should have been working to avoid. However instead, every time Hardy was in a match – a large stunt would generally follow. He was described as being in rough shape after his No DQ match with Darby Allin, yet was still put into a major PPV match with The Young Bucks just weeks later.
