On WWE Monday Night Raw on June 6, Edge was booted from Judgement Day, the faction he founded after only 60 days of the group’s existence, and the why has had us scratching our heads.
Various reasons have come out like the theory that with Cody Rhodes injured and expected to miss the next six months, they needed a top face and Edge was picked for the role.
Edge Booted from Judgement Day for NOT wanting a Supernatural Angle
This seemed odd to us for a number of reasons, the most obvious being the popularity of AJ Styles and Finn Balor as faces confronting Edge and his cronies.
Edge was even switched on the WWE roster from being listed as a heel to a face, as one would expect following the betrayal.
But the issue many have with it was the abrupt change in plans before anyone could really get invested in Judgement Day.
Twice, Edge’s promo was a copy and paste from the previous week with some tweaks, which caught our attention as the creative team trying to find their footing with his new character.
As it turns out, it may have had more to do with Edge resisting a supernatural angle for the young and growing faction.
Undertaker 2.0
Given the WWE’s problem with lack of depth after all their releases and refusing to let go of the brand split, it made sense Edge’s turn was to fill a gap.
Fightful Select halted those rumors when they reported that Edge was removed from the group because they wanted to take it in a supernatural angle similar to the Undertaker, and Edge didn’t agree.
In fact, Edge recently shot down fans comparing him to the Undertaker, so his vision or alliance to content was pretty clear for a while.
This is oddly funny given the one wrestler the WWE had Bray Wyatt who had a storyline with supernatural elements in it was released for, according to reports, due to his high salary and being “difficult” for defending his character and vision.
It looks like any storylines for Edge will have to wait as he was most likely written off WWE TV for the next couple of weeks so he can come back as a conquering hero to face Balor and try to earn Styles’ trust.
Of the feud could be dropped and Judgement Day will continue doing its thing.
It all depends on what Vince McMahon and WWE Creative have planned, and we’re wary given their history, but there’s always hope this will work out.
As for Edge, we expect to see him come back like he did to face Randy Orton, but there could be a couple of twists along the way.
