Joe Rogan has been around Mixed Martial Arts and UFC for all his adult life. But, he is a huge fan of all other combat sports as well. He is a Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he has immense knowledge in wrestling, and he follows kickboxing. But one of his favorite combat sports is boxing.
He follows the boxing scene since he started showing interest in combat sports. As such, he does have great knowledge of the techniques, records, and the pros and cons of fighting styles of each of the major names in the boxing world.
Joe Rogan Reveals Who Is His All-Time Favorite Heavyweight Boxer – It’s Not Tyson!
When it comes to choosing an all-time favorite boxer, his choice is somewhat unconventional. If you ask an occasional boxing follower, about his favorite fighter the choice is almost predictable with certainty. It is either, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Tyson Fury, or Floyd Mayweather. These are all great fighters, some of Joe’s favorite ones as well, but none of these is his all-time favorite.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Rogan reveals that according to him, the most complete and most technically perfect boxer of all time is Joe Louis. The podcaster admires his technique, durability, way of training, and discipline.
“Joe Louis had one of the most perfect techniques in the history of the heavyweight division. The way he would throw a right hand, there’s no telegraphing it at all. He would just shoot it.” – the UFC color commentator says.
Joe Louis, who has the nickname ‘The Bomber’ is a boxer that is active on the boxing scene between 1934 and 1951. During his career, dispersing between 17 years, he managed to have astonishing 69 fights and only 3 losses. He won 52 of the fights with KO. Joe Louis is one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport, but since his reign was more than 70 years ago, not many people remember him.
Joe Louis goes to retirement in 1949 with an incredible record with only one single loss. However, he decides to make a comeback, in pursuit of money, after 2 years and faces two consecutive defeats. After his loss to Rocky Marciano, he decides that it is indeed enough and that he cannot cope with the young blood on the scene. He is the boxer with the longest single reign as a champion of all the boxers in history. This record is still unbeaten almost half a century after his death.
“I did the best I could with what I had.” - is one of the famous Joe Louis quotes. And we most certainly agree with it. Since we are still occasionally speaking about him, 40 years after his death and 70 years after his peak in his career.
