The Pudzian, the Dominator, the former strongman, successful powerlifter, and lastly current MMA fighter. Mariusz Pudzianowski’s career is a broad one with many ups and down, many shifts from one sport to another, and many successful events and fights.
What is more interesting aside from his wins on any given field is the amazing shape of his body that he is managing to keep during his reign as a powerlifter (which is really strange), strongman, and fighter.
Mariusz Pudzianowski Opens Up About His Diet – He Eats 5lbs Of Ice Cream In One Sitting!
He is in the top 2 places in the World’s Strongest Man competition starting from 2002 and all the way until 2009. Since then he has made a 16-7-1 record in MMA and is currently on a four-win streak, all four wins by a KO. His next heavyweight bout is scheduled for the 28th of May against Michal Materla.
The first thing that pops up in your mind when starting to ‘care’ for your body is how to combine your training and diet in order to achieve the best results. Many experts, nutritionists, and famous sportspeople have general advice – straighten out your diet.
While this is the number one advice on this topic, some people are countering everything and achieving great results by eating all kinds of food, including the ‘forbidden’ ones.
One of those people happens to be the giant Mariusz Pudzianowski as well. In a recent interview for the MMA hour, Mariusz opens up about his diet and amazes everyone with his answer.
“Don’t have any kind of particular diet since I eat everything. I can eat 30 bars of chocolate, drink two cartons of milk, then eat five pounds of ice cream in bed. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and I always have these beautiful muscles on my body.” – Mariusz says.
Most probably he exaggerated his meal content a little bit in this interview, however, it is no secret that he eats a lot. And when I say a lot I mean equally to 4 or 5 regular people. A regular active sportsman – in the strongman or powerlifting sport – needs as much as 8-10 000 calories a day. Since Mariusz comes from this strongman background, his diet is mostly such.
In another interview, he gives more detail about his meals and his meal plan. He says that he eats up to 10 eggs and 2-3 pounds of bacon in one sitting in the morning. Between meals, he opens up about his sugar intake, which he apparently needs to function properly. For lunch, he eats a considerable amount of meat with some carbohydrates on the side. Finally, he likes to ends the day with a protein shake and chocolate.
An important addition to the above is his intake of supplements. And when he says supplements he means “magnesium, creatine, amino acids, all that stuff, and more chocolate…”.
Marius has been once disqualified from a strongman competition back in 2004. So he is no stranger to more potent stuff as well. However more on that some other time. In the end, he does live and compete in Poland. The land of no restrictions and limitations in sport.
I suppose you haven’t heard of a sportsman that eats as much sweet as Pudzianowski and is in such a ‘clean’ form. Well, you are not alone, I don’t know anyone who eats as many sweets and carbs as well. But the key to having the Greek god body is not the diet alone.
We must give credit to Pudzianowski’s training sessions as well. He tells that he trains a couple of times a day. He does these heavy trainings that require as much energy as possible. Evidently Mariusz is a supporter of the Arnold Schwarzenegger philosophy – lift as much you can and as many times you can. Pudzian maxes out on almost all training sessions. He believes that this helps to build more dense and more powerful muscles.
His cardio readiness is one of a 140-pound athlete despite the fact that he weighs around 270lbs. He likes running, he likes jumping rope and most of all he enjoys swimming. He says that swimming helps him train his cardiovascular system while putting close to no damage to his joints and muscles. Swimming is like therapy for his whole body and he does it on a daily basis. His great cardio helps him build muscle fast and allows him to be durable and not feel fatigue through all rounds of an MMA fight.
So, to endure all this you need energy. And energy comes from calories. To endure so much training and so demanding exercises you need plenty of calories. Around 10 000 to be more precise. While you are not physically able to match this number with a protein-based food, we can safely assume that you’ll seek addition to it in sweets, fats, and a combination of all. And that’s what Mariusz does.
Until now, the Pudzian has been exclusively fighting in KSW events and claims that he is OK there and does not seek greater glory by competing in the UFC, or some other more famous promotion.
And there are three main reasons why he does not undertake such a move. To shift into the UFC he needs better technique. The UFC is consisting of the best fighters from all promotions. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Mariusz is a beast. But a beatable one if put against some of the heavyweights of the UFC. The second reason is that his regular fighting weight is around 270lbs which makes him too heavy for the UFC. And finally, his age. He is 45 years old and as such is not at the peak of his shape. The more popular promotions are looking to have younger and more prosperous fighters that can be in the promotion for a longer time.
To conclude, Mariusz is a beast. A beast that keeps his incredible form for more than 25 years. And he is to be given credit for that. How many 45-year-old 270-pounders do you know that look like him?
