Last night, the main topic that was taken away from AEW Rampage was the injury of CM Punk. Due to a broken foot, Punk will be out of action for a few months – and AEW will be naming an Interim AEW World Champion. However, Punk was not the only champion who suffered an injury around Rampage, as the TNT Champion Scorpio Sky suffered an injury.
Scorpio Sky Suffers Muscle Strain In Right Leg During TNT Championship Defence Against Dante Martin
Taking to Twitter following the show, Sky would inform the fans that he completed his TNT Championship defence against Dante Martin on effectively one leg. Sky would have the following to say over two tweets.
“I went into last nights match with my knee bothering me and unfortunately in the opening minutes I strained a muscle that goes from my knee up through my groin. My right leg was useless from then on. Despite that, wrestling in SoCal felt amazing even on one leg. Hopefully nothing serious and I’ll be back to defend again soon.
There have been no rumours of Sky having to vacate his championship, or a need for an Interim TNT Champion to be named. Hopefully Sky will be back and defending his championship by Forbidden Door, and in the meantime can continue to cut promos alongside both Dan Lambert & Ethan Page.
Longtime Fans & AEW Both Agree That Sky Is A Star
Finishing his title defence on a single leg is something that will only serve to build the star of Scorpio Sky. Since the early days of AEW, it’s clear they’ve viewed Sky as a cornerstone of the company. He was one half of the first ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, and the first man to pin Chris Jericho in AEW.
Fans have also latched onto Sky since the start, often expressing interest in seeing him become the first ever AEW Triple Crown Champion, as he now only needs the AEW World Championship to complete this accomplishment. Others who are close to this goal are Kenny Omega & Hangman Page, who both need the TNT Championship.
