AEW Rampage Results: Scorpio Sky Makes Promise To Restore The Honor Of The TNT Championship, Jay Lethal Defeats Konosuke Takeshita (05/06)

Konosuke Takeshita is here in AEW on excursion from DDT, and Jay Lethal wants to roll out the red carpet. Takeshita has previously been in an AEW ring, budding up with The Elite a few years back – and getting a win over Brandon Cutler on AEW Dark recently. However tonight, he faces a former ROH World Champion in Lethal, in a town that hosted many Ring of Honor events. Lethal also has Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh in his corner here tonight.

Scorpio Sky Plans To Bring Honor Back To The TNT Championship

Before this match, we’d hear from Scorpio Sky. He intends to be a dominant champion – and the TNT Championship is done being passed around like Tay Conti backstage. Sky also called for Dan Lambert to stop carrying the second belt around, as it belongs back in the American Top Team trophy case.

Finally, Frankie Kazarian was called out – and Sky said he gets his title shot next week on AEW Dynamite. This is the first ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, and their familiarity should give way to an incredible match.

DDT vs. ROH In The Main Event Of An AEW Event

Takeshita would start up with a quick takedown, before Lethal was able to sprawl to the bottom rope. Singh was able to look through the top and middle ropes while standing at ringside, showing his size – as Lethal looked for the Figure Four Leg Lock. Takeshita would kick his way free, before being tossed down and hit with a dropkick.

Lethal took some time to taunt, before taking some chops and a leg lariat. Takeshita would mock Lethal by strutting himself, only for Lethal to be taken down with a diving shoulder tackle. Singh would intimidate Takeshita at ringside following a crossbody to Lethal, allowing for Lethal to hit a Dragon Screw and Suicide Dive.

Back in the ring, Lethal would slingshot Takeshita into the top turnbuckle, before a backbreaker into a kneebreaker into a dragon screw. Lethal is incredible at chaining moves together – but the Lethal Injection was telegraphed, and Takeshita hit a basement dropkick – catching Lethal in the face.

    Jay Lethal Steals The Win

Takeshita was taken to the outside, where he’d drop Lethal face first into the barricade. Back in the ring, Lethal would catch Takeshita on the top rope – and looked for a super Exploder Suplex. Instead, Takeshita nailed a massive lariat – sending Lethal soaring down to the mat. Back in the middle of the ring, Lethal blocked a Dragon Suplex into a Figure Four Leg Lock. – but Takeshita broke free.

Sheerdrop brainbuster landed on Lethal, who fired back with the Lethal Combination. Lethal Injection was blocked and another huge lariat and the jumping knee landed. Takeshita got a visual pinfall, while Dutt distracted the referee. Lethal was able to kick out after being pinned for about a nine count, and Takeshita nailed another heavy blow.

Takeshita was rolled up, but shoved Lethal off to the ropes – allowing Lethal Injection to land for the win. It took all the interference he could muster – and after the bell it’d be a three on one attack. Best Friends made the save, perhaps looking to replace the recent exit of Wheeler Yuta with Takeshita.

Singh would take them down with flapjacks and chokes, before Orange Cassidy stepped up. Samoa Joe would be the backup, who was armed with a steel pipe. When will Singh make his in-ring debut? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
