When Cody Rhodes left All Elite Wrestling earlier this year to return to WWE, few knew exactly what to expect. Very low on anyone’s list was Rhodes working a Hell in A Cell match against Seth Rollins with a torn pec, and him giving one of the most inspiring babyface performances fans have seen in years. He’s back on the mend after successful surgery, but Rhodes doesn’t currently have a timeline for his return to action.
Cody Rhodes Doctors Refused To Give Him A Timeline After Surgery
While appearing on Busted Open Radio, Cody Rhodes would have a chance to provide a quick update on his status. He doesn’t know when he will return, as doctors kept him in the dark to avoid him making any rash moves. Rhodes was quoted saying the following.
“My doctors are not gonna give me a timeline just yet for when I’m gonna be back because they are afraid if they give me that timeline, I’m gonna try and jump it by maybe a month or two. I almost haemorrhaged in the surgery because there was so much blood.”
Also during this interview, Rhodes would reveal that WWE has been working on a documentary about Rhodes – likely something akin to the WWE 24 special that followed Seth Rollins returning from injury a few years back. It’s unclear when this would be released, but certainly after any return to the ring.
Royal Rumble Return Is Still In The Cards
As for fan speculation on the return of Rhodes, most fans are expecting him to return as part of the 2023 Royal Rumble match. Considering his Hell In A Cell performance, it’s expected Rhodes will return as a main event star for WWE – and is even a potential winner of the match. All of this depends on a successful recovery, which is seemingly going off without a hitch.
WWE initially announced Rhodes as being out for 9 months, but are known to overshoot recovery times to make returns more shocking. Rhodes will be back at some point in 2023, and might well continue his reign with Rollins then.
