After selling 780 prints through the Castle Fine Art gallery in London, Johnny Depp has earned over $3.6 million. According to The Sunday-Times, the prints sold out “almost immediately” after being made available for purchase on Thursday.
The “Friends & Heroes” collection is Depp’s first official effort, and it showcases four portraits of Bob Dylan, Elizabeth Taylor, Al Pacino, and Keith Richards. Depp reportedly concentrated on “people he has known well, and who have inspired him as a person.”
Johnny Depp Earns Over $3.6 Million From Selling His Artwork
The pop-meets-street art was described by Castle Fine Art as “Each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Johnny’s eyes; a portrayal of how they have revealed themselves to him. From his dear friend Keith Richards, who inspired the mannerisms of the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow, to Bob Dylan, whose creative influence on the artist is seen in his vivid and immortal portrayal by Johnny.” The set of four limited edition portraits is available for $15,040 online, with each portrait costing a whopping $3,973.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor explained in a statement sent to the gallery how he has always used art to convey his emotions and think about the people that matter most to him, including his family, friends, and those he admires. “My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves.”
The gallery shared a behind-the-scenes image of Depp painting in the studio on Instagram before the art’s debut on Thursday. Depp posted a photo of himself posing with the four-part set that was mounted on a wall the same day. Fans were naturally eager for the release of the collections, and according to Castle Fine Art, “this world-first release proved to be our fastest-selling collection to date, selling out in just hours,”.
