We’re just a few days away from the start of the G1 Climax. We’re seeing a different format this year, with four blocks of competitors instead of the usual two. This has led to the A-Block standing out, as being full of powerful heavyweights like JONAH & Lance Archer, as well as the 2021 winner – Kazuchika Okada. JONAH is making his debut in the tournament, and he’s excited to bring the world some ‘big man wrestling’.
JONAH Wants To Prove Himself As The Number One Hoss In NJPW
During an interview for NJPW1972.com, JONAH wuld have a chance to speak before this tournament kicks off on night two on Sapporo. When asked about his reaction to folks calling it the ‘big boy block’, JONAH had the following to say.
“I’m very happy about the lineup. For the last five or six years, I’ve been preaching about big man wrestling, and being over 300lbs, I’m excited for this. I want to be the next Big Van Vader, the next Bruiser Brody. The big, imposing invader. That’s the role I want to fill.”
Meanwhile, when asked about United Empire’s Jeff Cobb – JONAH would be excited to prove he’s the number one hoss. After confirming Cobb went 8-0 in 2021, only losing to eventual winner Okada, JONAH had the following to say about his match with Cobb.
“That’s just so impressive. But I want to have the same record he had last year this year, and I want to give him a loss. For the longest time in our careers, from when I first met him in 2017, we’ve been compared to one another. We do very different things in the ring, but whether it’s look, or the fact we’re both agile big men, we’re constantly compared, but I want people to know I’m the number one hoss.”
JONAH will face Cobb on August 5th in Matsuyama, one of the most anticipated matches of this entire tournament. Do you think JONAH will prove himself in the G1 Climax? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
