Right now, Thunder Rosa is firmly on top of the AEW Women’s roster, as the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion. During her reign, she had plans to travel the world and face the best challengers possible. This led her to the latest Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling event, Summer Sun Princess. There, she would face ‘The Pink Striker’ Miyu Yamashita, who just earned herself a chance to become AEW Women’s World Champion.
Thunder Rosa Keeps Her Pre-Match Promise To Miyu Yamashita
Before their match at this event, Rosa would promise Yamashita that if she was able to win – she’d earn herself a title shot. After catching the champion with an inside cradle, Yamashita was able to do just that. Rosa would prove to be a woman of her word, and shook hands with Yamashita and agreeing to a future title match.
Miyu Yamashita Earns Title Shot For AEW Women’s World Championship During TJPW Summer Sun Princess
This was a return for Rosa, who previously wrestled in TJPW prior to being signed to AEW. There she held the International Princess Champion, a belt she would win in early 2020, and was never actually able to defend due to travel restrictions put into play by the COVID-19 pandemic. TJPW fans welcomed her back, and hope to see much more of her in the promotion in the future.
Meanwhile, Yamashita had a short run in AEW – appearing on AEW Dark for some tag team action during a recent trip to the United States. She got a lot of attention from fans and folks backstage at AEW, who would love to have her become a regular name in the promotion. Yamashita will have to return soon, with a title shot waiting for her, though an exact date remains unclear.
Right now on AEW programming, Rosa has been teaming with Toni Storm as a tag team called Thunder Storm. Storm recently challenged Rosa for the AEW Women’s World Championship, but was unsuccessful. That match happened during the crossover show with NJPW, known as Forbidden Door.
