Prince Charles had reportedly accepted a £1m donation for his charity from none other than Osama bin Laden’s relatives.
Prince Charles Blasted After Accepting £1 Million Donation From Terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s Relatives
According to The Sunday Times, Charles received a payment from Bakr bin Laden and his brother Shafiq, who happened to be half-brothers of bin Laden. It is alleged that Charles met Bakr in 2013.
While there is nothing to suggest that the two brothers had engaged in terrorism, this is not a good look when bin Laden was accused of being the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Centre and Building 7.
Not only that, but Charles had also been recently implicated in a Qatari cash scandal. In Charles’ defence, it is claimed that the trustees of his charity the ‘Prince of Wales Charitable Fund,’ oversaw the donation.
Sir Ian Cheshire, who happens to be a chairman of the charity, had this to say: “Due diligence was conducted, with information sought from a wide range of sources, including government.
“The decision to accept the donation was taken wholly by the Trustees. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is misleading and inaccurate.”
Nevertheless, the decision by the charity is still questionable. First of all, surely there were other organisations that could have offered a donation.
And this could have been done without the need to be associated with the bin Laden family. Secondly, there was always a risk that Charles could get backlash from this if it was leaked, as it has been done now.
And yet, a speaker on behalf of Charles has reassured people that all action was taken to carry out the necessary precautions.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The Prince of Wales’ Charitable Fund has assured us that thorough due diligence was undertaken in accepting this donation.”
The fans on social media were very brutal, and in the process, they began to bash him. One person wrote: “If Charlie ends up as king he’s going to be an absolute disaster for the monarchy.”
