Prince William and Kate Middleton’s recent Royal Caribbean tour had reportedly cost the UK taxpayer £226,000.
William And Kate Condemned For Spending £226,000 On Disastrous Royal Caribbean Tour-‘Why Do We Just Put Up With This?’
The tour which consisted of visits to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas was a disaster to say the least. The couple’s presence was heavily unwelcome as protests began to emerge in the region.
This was on the grounds that the protesters were demanding an apology and reparations over British colonial rule in past times. So the fact that such an exorbitant amount of money was expended on a futile visit has naturally drawn a lot of criticism.
The political pressure group entitled ‘Republic,’ who demands that the UK have an elected head of state did not hold back on their condemnation over the monarchy’s spending.
Anti-Royalist Graham Smith, the member of the group, had this to say: “Why is the monarchy not facing significant cuts while essential public services have been cut time and again over the past decade?
“Is this an ethical use of public money? What else could we afford for that amount?” Much in the same way, the response from the public was equally brutal.
This was on the grounds that domestic jobs were already under pressure, which meant it was no longer possible to argue for such a vast amount of money being dedicated to the Royal family.
And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media. A significant proportion of people were outraged that there had not been limits over the amount of spending since the cost of living was going up for the ordinary citizen.
One person wrote: “Half the uk choosing between heating there homes or eating and people still fall at there feet, madness,” while another person stated: “Why do we just put up with this?”
The last tour was a PR disaster, but whether the next one ends up being the same is anyone’s guess. Time will tell. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
