Why John Cena Will Not Be Wrestling At WWE Summerslam 2022
It’s been a while since John Cena was a full time wrestler for WWE. The 16 time world champion has moved onto Hollywood, and while he will show up on occasion – he doesn’t risk his body in the ring on a regular basis. There were rumours and even some social mebia build surrounding him wrestling Theory at Summerslam – but those have been shot down, and we now know why.
John Cena Is Going To Be Busy Shooting Peacemaker
During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez would explain why we won’t see Cena at Summerslam. He’s busy shooting Peacemaker 2.
“I can confirm that being filmed right now is Peacemaker 2 and John Cena is involved. He’s working on Peacemaker 2 as we speak. I presume that’s why there have been discussions of him doing SummerSlam but then he showed up on Raw to announce ‘someday I’ll be back. I don’t know when, don’t know where but I’ll be back someday.’ Apparently, he’s filming Peacemaker and that’s why he can’t do SummerSlam.”
Peacemaker is one of the biggest shows on HBO Max, and is a spinoff of the recent Suicide Squad movie, which saw Cena make his debut in the DC Comic universe.
WWE Could Have Both The Rock & Cena For Wrestlemania In 2023
Much like the long rumoured match between The Rock & Roman Reigns, we could potentially see John Cena vs. Theory at Wrestlemania in Los Angeles next year. Cena being too busy for Summerslam could be a blessing in disguise, as WWE now has a chance to build Theory into a proper main event name – instead of just shooting him into a match with one of the biggest names in the companies history.
Being able to promote both The Rock & John Cena for Wrestlemania would be massive for WWE, as getting back their two biggest stars for the same show? That’d be something to bring in some lapsed viewers, and allows WWE to try and win those fans back. However, this depends on both Cena & The Rock having an open schedule, which is getting harder as they gain more and more demand in Hollywood.
