Carmelo Hayes was tricked into giving Grayson Waller a title shot tonight. Last week on NXT 2.0, Hayes would be asked to sign some items for Waller – who claimed his family were big fans. Among these items was a contract for an NXT North American Championship match, which Hayes blindly signed. Now, Waller has a chance to claim his first championship in WWE, but could learn why Hayes says he never misses.
Apollo Crews vs. Giovanni Vinci Set For NXT 2.0 Next Week
Before this match could start, Apollo Crews would hit the ring, still riding high after a massive return to the NXT brand. He’s been showing some extra character, with vignettes showing him as a bit of a vigilante as of late – and that could extend to cleaning up the trash in the locker room.
Crews wanted to share something with the fans. For the last year, he’d ask his kids what they thought about him in the ring – and they recognized he wasn’t being himself. They stopped watching, and would only start when he started back in NXT. His kids put a spark back in his career, and everything he does is for him.
He’s been back for about a month, and this place is different from the NXT he left. There’s a ton of talent ready to take advantage of any chance given. Crews wants to face the likes of D’Angelo, Frazer, and the winner of the NXT Championship match – especially if it’s Cameron Grimes.
However, Giovonni Vinci would interrupt. He would claim he’s the only man who can match the skills of Crews in the ring, and could even surpass him. Crews offered him to enter the ring, but Vinci would say that’s not dressed to compete – so next week? We’ll find out who the best athlete in NXT truly is.
Two Equally Matched Stars Kick Off A Championship Match
Following a big entrance with a hyped up introduction from Trick Williams – Carmelo Hayes was ready to once again prove he’s built different from the rest of the NXT 2.0 roster. Waller & Hayes would both go for punches as they tried for a handshake, before Waller got the roll up for a two count.
Hayes would get a handful of tights on a roll up, before dodging a leg lariat and running Waller down with a lariat. Waller was sent from the ring, but would roll back in for an attempt at the stunner. Hayes would stop this, before taking a punch to the face. Waller would look for the springboard elbow drop, but Hayes caught him with a kick to the face before the Fade Away.
Hayes would go out to the ringside area to talk with Williams, and Waller slid out of the ring and nailed the lariat. Hayes would manage the comeback in the ring with a springboard tornado DDT, but would only get a two count for his efforts. Waller would hit a hard vertical suplex, before grabbing a wrist lock on the mat.
Carmelo Hayes Don’t Miss
Hayes would break free, and would try and take Waller down to the mat. Armbar would almost be applied, before Hayes was lifted up onto the shoulder. La Mistica would be followed by a crossface being applied, with Waller rolling back into a pinfall to get free.
Waller & Hayes would trade blows in the middle of the ring, before Hayes hit the springboard lariat. Hayes would get hit with the basement dropkick before the flipping Killswitch for a two count. Waller would hit the stunner as a counter to the tornado DDT, but Williams would prevent the rolling stunner.
Wes Lee would attack Williams after their match earlier, and in the ring – Hayes would nail the Nothing But Net leg drop to a standing Waller, and would remain NXT North American Champion! Can anyone stop Hayes as champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
