Drew McIntyre has become a major proponent of the WWE expanding into the UK and for good reason. The WWE is a global entity and they perform regular live shows in Saudi Arabia, but aside from those their main brands stay within the confines of the United States more than not despite their popularity overseas.
Still, the opportunity is there for more events to be held in the UK and other countries with WWE holding their first major pay-per-view in the UK since 1992’s SummerSlam.
Drew McIntyre Wants the UK to Host a WrestleMania
Clash at the Castle is expected to be one of the highest attendance WWE events of 2022 with Drew challenging Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
It’s put Drew center stage for arguably the biggest match of his career as he could, make that should, walk out of there as champion to really ratchet up the fans.
Expanding WrestleMania venues
WrestleMania has been nearly everywhere with some of the most grandiose events of the year, so it makes sense that following the expected success of Clash at the Castle more pay-per-views could be held there.
Drew talked with Chris Van Vliet on Insight and responded to a questions about having a WrestleMania in the UK.
“Yeah, I can’t see why not. I’m not going to talk about numbers that I have heard at the moment until they are official, but we have seen the numbers that have been released, just the demand for the tickets broke records initially. Right now, we are on course for some big, big numbers from a business perspective.
“But people watching and tuning into Clash at the Castle and seeing the live audience, how loud and rowdy and crazy they are with the chants we have seen in the past with Raw and SmackDown that have come from the UK. I know a lot of people are going to go, ‘Why don’t we do a WrestleMania here?’ It’s gonna be crazy, imagine those wild UK fans and people coming from all across the world joining in the passion, the atmosphere and the inanity of the UK fans.”
We’d love to see the WWE expand their pay-per-views to other countries more, but there is an issue with the costs and logistics, so it’s understandable it’d be one event and some regular shows a year.
It’d also give the WWE a great opportunity to work with other companies in other countries like the others have been doing, and it’d only help the WWE move up another notch.
