Elon Musk comes out with many statements during the day. It is noticeable especially if you follow him on Twitter. Just like that he made a statement that he sees the current world crumbling down if the oil and gas supply is cut down suddenly by some higher force. Of course, he added that this is just an additional motivation to continue accelerating sustainable energy sources.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX took part at the Offshore Northern Seas conference in Norway and spoke about the future of the energy industry. In his speech, he mostly focused on the role and the development of new technologies.
Elon Musk Predicts A Civilization Collapse Without Oil And Gas
As usual, alongside the energy concerns, Musk pointed out the population collapse at sight due to not enough babies. He used his expression that if we don’t do that, we would end up ‘with a whimper in adult diapers’.
The conversation pivoted to the usage of oil and gas. When asked about it Musk gave his view on the matter. “Realistically, we do need to use oil and gas in the short term, otherwise civilization would crumble.” – Musk warned.
“For civilization to continue to function, we do need oil and gas. Especially these days, with the Russia sanctions, we do need to provide oil and gas to keep civilization running. I think any reasonable person would conclude that. While at the same time accelerating the advent of sustainable energy.”
He reflected on the opinion if Norway should continue to drill for oil and gas or should stop the activities.
“I think some additional exploration is warranted at this time. One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and to a sustainable economy. That will take some decades to complete.”
He pointed out how Norway is one of the best-positioned countries to take advantage of wind power. Stationary battery packs and wind power generators combined may advance the country massively in the energy industry.
Musk then continued explaining how the biggest threat is not the energy source, nor the possibility of nuclear war – it is the current birth rate.
“It’s important that people have enough babies to support civilization.” – Musk said at the end of his speech.
“They say civilization might die with a bang or with a whimper. If we don’t have enough kids, then we will die with a whimper in adult diapers. That would be depressing. Make more babies. At least make enough babies to sustain the population.”
Elon also spoke about how SpaceX is getting ready to launch the Starship into orbit, and they plan to do that by the end of the year, at the same time when he will introduce the advanced self-driving technology.
