The praise for Triple H’s efforts into changing WWE’s storytelling style has received good feedback from fans and others in the business to one level or another.
Jim Cornette is one that’s said he expects Triple H to “make it watchable”, but he also said the Titanic couldn’t be turned on a dime so it gives him hope for what’s to come.
Eric Bischoff Loves How Triple H has Returned WWE to Being a Live Episodic Show
Another that’s been critical at times is Vince McMahon’s former rival Eric Bischoff. While hardcore fans may not like what Bischoff has to say at times, but he’s the only promoter to get the best of the WWE and Vince McMahon for a lengthy stretch.
He knows what works and what doesn’t, and there’s no denying that even if we don’t agree with what he says.
3 act storytelling returns
Bischoff appeared on SHAK Wrestling with Shakiel Mahjouri to talk about the current state of the WWE and one of the topics he talked about his excitement at Triple H’s new direction for the WWE.
“I’m extremely enthusiastic and somewhat prescient at the same time because while I was hoping that those things would happen, they have happened, right? To a noticeable degree over a relatively short period of time. But Paul has already made it clear publicly that he’s going to let talent have a little more freedom and be less rigid in the stick to the script, word for word, comma by comma approach that has been pretty much the norm for the last 10, 15 years. That in itself is kind of exciting because you’re going to have talent that are going to bumble. They’re going to stumble, they’re going to trip over a word.
“Guess what? That feels gritty. That feels a little more real. That’s live TV. I’m looking at some of the episodic elements of the most recent formats where a story starts out early on in the show and then threads itself through. It’s sort of a three-act structure, which I’ve been begging for the last seven years. We’re seeing a three-act structure within a three-hour show. Imagine that. Episodic storytelling. It’s that kind of discipline to detail in story and format — because you can’t have a good story if you don’t have a good format and vice versa — That kind of commitment to discipline and format and structures, I think going to create a lot better television and it’s already happening.”
This is something we’ve enjoyed as Triple H did away with a promo leading directly into a match and instead has been parceling them out throughout the broadcast.
It’s a great breath of fresh air and the shows don’t feel as rushed anymore. It’s really put a professional feeling polish on them and it’s fun to watch WWE again as we haven’t seen repeat matches a multiple times a night now.
What do you think? Is Triple H’s storytelling method drawing you in more than the previously hurried style? Let us know in the comments below.
