Prince William‘s hugging of players at the trophy presentation during the women’s Euro 2022 final has been called into question.
Fans Accuse Prince William Of Racism At Women’s 2022 Euro Final Amid Pegging Scandal- ‘It’s RACISM. Stop Excusing It’
The Duke of Cambridge happened to be in attendance, as the England football team made history by defeating Germany 2-1 in extra time.
And at a time where there was massive euphoria over what had been accomplished, William’s conduct at the trophy presentation was scrutinised.
In the video here, we can see that William is handing out the medals. As he does so, he proceeds to hug some of the players. While that appears to be entirely innocent, not everybody felt this way.
This was on the grounds that a certain subset of people questioned his criteria over who would receive a hug. And in doing so, some believed he was not hugging the black players.
One person wrote: “Is it me or did Prince William not hug any of the black players? Umm,” while another person stated: “It may not be CONSCIOUS. BUT it’s RACISM. Stop excusing it.”
If those comments are taken to be true, then it is very significant for the following reasons.
First of all, it would give credence to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claim that someone in the Royal family had reservations over their son Archie’s skin colour.
Secondly, it does not look good when William previously spoke out against racism that footballers had suffered. In his prior comments, he remarked: “We’ve got to do something about it. I’m fed up with it. I’m so bored of it.”
Nevertheless, others felt that this had been blown out of proportion. They were of the view that William only hugged players, who had reached out to him for one. Another user stated: “He reacted to each individual differently based on what THEY wanted.
“Some went in for hugs and some didn’t. He was enthusiastic with every single one. Genuinely intrigued why all of sudden William is Satan?”
