Kamaru Usman lost his title to Leon Edwards by a brutal KO in the fifth round at the UFC 278. The world is in shock. It is the first time that we see the ‘invincible’ Nigerian Nightmare in such light. After receiving a very hard log blow to his head, he fell unconscious and had his first knockout loss.
The situation was such that UFC fans were waiting on a decision win for Usman after the fifth round ends. Kamaru dominated most of the time and started gaining that ‘bad’ confidence that cost him the win.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Reacts To Kamaru Usman’s KO Loss At The UFC 278
Many consider Kamaru Usman to be a much better fighter than Leon Edwards. However, luck was not with him at the UFC 278. Khabib Nurmagomedov has an opinion on this. He says that it is almost certain that Usman will now face a lengthy medical suspension due to the nature of his loss. Receiving such head trauma can most certainly cause numerous complications. So before coming back to the octagon, he might want to ensure his well-being first.
Nurmagomedov is certain that Usman has the potential to revenge his loss to Edwards, however, he claims that such losses as well can cause great trauma that is not easy to overcome.
“I believe he can beat Leon Edwards, but after such a knockout a lot of people don’t recover. It will be interesting to see, they are one and one now.” – Nurmagomedov tells reporters and journalists.
“Honestly, I was surprised you could even say a little bit upset because I have a good friendship with Kamaru. Of course, it was hard to watch the best fighter in the world, which he is right now, get knocked out severely with 50 seconds remaining in the fight. For a second it all went wrong, Kamaru put his hand in the wrong place. Your lights can go out if the proper defense is not in place. You can wake up in the locker room and it’s over.”
Dana White confirmed that we are about to see a trilogy fight between the two. However, to make this happen, first, the medical team should confirm that Usman is healthy and ready to fight.
The outcome of the fight did not satisfy the ex-champion, and he promises to be back as soon as possible.
“Champs f*** up sometimes… but we bounce back and come with vengeance. I am ok, he just caught me in the right spot. These things happen. We will learn from them and do what greatness requires.”
