Meghan Markle has been slammed for throwing her royal title, The Duchess of Sussex, under the bus during the first episode of her Spotify podcast, ‘Archetypes.’

Meghan, for her part, has been referred to as the Duchess of Sussex even following her exit from the Royal Family, but only when it comes to official engagements. So the decision of Markle to only refer to herself as Meghan on her podcast was quite telling.
In the promo for the podcast, she did admit that this was going to be an unfiltered version of herself. And in order to come across as relatable, the removal of the title would have aided that somewhat.
And yet, that has backfired with some suggesting that she has exchanged her royal title for the sake of celebrity status. Daniela Elser, who happens to be a royal expert, had this to say: “The message we are meant to take away is that this is Meghan.
“Raw. Unfiltered. Unleashed. In ditching her title, here we have Meghan’s ascension…to mononym status, an ostensible thrusting of herself to the highest celebrity plane like Oprah or Beyonce.”

Nevertheless, those comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt for the following reasons. First of all, when Meghan has used her royal title post the Royal Family, she has been accused of meddling into United States politics.
This was most recently seen when she wrote a letter to House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi to advocate paid parental leave.
Secondly, even if Meghan decided to drop the title, some would argue that this was appropriate since the setting was different. After all, it was on her podcast which cannot be compared to an official engagement.
And yet, the decision by Meghan could have been based on the title of her podcast. She did make it clear that ‘archetypes’ and being shoehorned are things which she hopes to counteract.
