We are used to seeing Joe Rogan topping the Spotify charts for the most viewed podcast. However, this might be the end of it. This week Meghan Markle’s new podcast “Archetypes” surpassed “The Joe Rogan Experience” on the list of most listened to podcasts in six regions in the world, the United States and the United Kingdom included. Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia are just some of the regions where the podcast gained massive popularity.
The first episode of the new podcast aired last Tuesday. It featured one of the most popular female tennis stars, Serena Williams.
Meghan Markle The Duchess Of Sussex Is Now The Queen Of Spotify Podcasts – Knocked Joe Rogan Off The 1st Place
You guessed right, the podcast is containing conversations about stereotypes surrounding women of all ages. Meghan does this by going through “uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape narratives”. We can hear the Duchess of Sussex “dissect, explore and subvert the labels that try to hold women back”.
First of all, the popular duo went on and discussed the double standards that ‘ambitious’ women face in everyday life. On this topic, Serena Williams shared a personal story from when she was playing at the 2018 French Open. Allegedly, just hours before the event took place, Serena’s daughter, Olympia fell and broke her wrist. Williams reflected on the guilt she felt weighing on her conscious for not being near her daughter.
Markle also shared a personal experience from back in 2019 when she was on a visit to South Africa. She told how she was undergoing emotional turmoil while fulfilling professional obligations.
“So much, I think optically, the focus ends up being on how it looks instead of how it feels.” – Markle says. “And part of the humanizing — and the breaking through of these labels, these archetypes, these boxes that we’re put into — is having some understanding of the human moments behind the scenes that people might not have any awareness of and to give each other a break. Because we did.”
Both Joe Rogan, and Meghan Markle had signed an exclusive multiyear deal to host their podcasts on Spotify exclusively. But this doesn’t mean that they ‘get along’. It was not long ago when Meghan and Prince Harry expressed concerns over the conversations and the people Joe Rogan hosted during the pandemic.
There is no doubt that Joe Rogan will be at the top of the Spotify podcasts for a long time. However, over time, there are some podcasts that succeed in surpassing it briefly. Back in May, the “Batman Unburied” Podcast underwent a massive boost and topped the list right above the Joe Rogan Experience.
