Queen Elizabeth’s failure to wish Meghan Markle a happy birthday has shown the monarch’s true feelings towards her.
Queen’s Birthday Snub Towards Meghan Was A ‘Sting In The Tail’
That is according to royal expert Daniela Elser. Meghan, for her part, celebrated an important milestone in her life when she turned 41.
And in order to recognise that, Prince William and Kate Middleton came out publicly to send her some birthday wishes.
The Queen, though, failed to follow suit which left many people wondering if the monarch has now drawn a clear division between herself and the ‘Duchess of Sussex.’
In her comments, Daniela said: “The bottom line is that no matter why @royalfamily decided to give Meghan the brush-off, being the first non-working member of the House of Windsor to come in for a regal blanking on their birthday, has some serious sting in the tail.”
Nevertheless, those comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt for the following reasons. First of all, the failure of the monarch to come out with some wishes may simply have been because Meghan is no longer a working royal.
Therefore, she cannot expect to get the same treatment that she would have otherwise have had. Secondly, royal custom does sometimes dictate that the monarch will have most likely sent some wishes privately.
Regardless of what the case may have been, William and Kate decided to press ahead with their wishes. That is why Daniela feels the Queen has had enough.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “If Her Majesty had been concerned that cold-shouldering the LA native might inflame tensions, or wanted to keep the peace with the fractious Sussexes, surely the palace would have waited to roll this new social media approach until after the Duchess’ birthday.”
Now that the birthday is over, time will tell if this is a continual trend next year. And if it does turn out to be so, then the Queen’s position will have been made clear.
