Like many fans of The Family Chantel TLC show, Chantel’s parents were worried that Pedro was only interested in their older daughter for the benefits he could get from her, one of which was a Green card. Now that Pedro has filed for divorce after suddenly changing his attitude towards his wife, one could not help but wonder if Chantel’s parents were right.

However, it has been difficult for Chantel’s family to completely blame Pedro because of how well their relationship has gotten over the years. Karen has now spoken about what could have been the cause of all these issues, referring to Pedro as a “swank panky” in the latest episode of the Family Chantel show.
Karen described “Swanky Panky” as a theory her friends had shared with her previously. She spoke about a scam that men from the Dominican Republic have developed these days where they get married to US Natives and then move to the US and settle there. However, rather than leave the marriage immediately they get what they want; they would act loving and caring for a period and suddenly change towards their partner and dissolve their marriage.
This theory makes sense to viewers as Pedro only started acting oddly towards Chantel three years after their marriage—which is the time it takes to get a permanent green card. Although Karen has been careful not to attack Pedro directly, fans do not mind doing so.
According to viewers, Pedro did not mind when Chantel went through a lot of stress to provide for the family and could suddenly decide to act up once he got a stable job. This has made fans believe that Pedro could be a scammer for real.
