Triple H is in the process of changing the culture within the WWE, but he’s also changing other philosophies Vince McMahon put into place.
Several former WWE talent, Jim Ross one of them, have stated the WWE wasn’t trying to build superstars anymore, that they were focused on the WWE brand instead.
Triple H is Focused on Building Iconic Characters Instead of the Brand
The mentality was explained that fans will pay to see the WWE, not the wrestlers on the card. In short, we were expected to accept whomever Vince decided to give us.
It wasn’t a business design that most would expect to last as eventually fans wouldn’t want to spend their money to hopefully see a favorite, but now it looks like that experiment is over.
Breath of fresh air
On WWE’s August 16 Earning’s Call, Triple H gave more insight into this change as well as how he’s looking at his new role as “first day on the job thinking.”
“The opportunity in front of us is massive and as a great man once told me, ‘First day on the job thinking.’ That’s what we’re doing here — first day on the job thinking. For me, I’ve been doing this for a long time; from behind the scenes in creative, from really almost the very beginning of my career here with WWE. I’m approaching it from a ‘first day’ what is working, what isn’t working, from the overall picture, all the day down to the smallest of details and really trying to create from there.
“It all comes down to the same thing that it’s come down to since the beginning; creating iconic characters, putting them in amazing storylines and fantastic storylines and whatever works for those characters the best and then running with it and watching how fans react to that along the way. I think the opportunity is massive. It’s an opportunity for us to not only engage with the stars we have for our fans, but to create new stars as well and create the platform and opportunity for them to become bigger than anything we’ve seen prior to it.”
This is a powerful statement that lays out Hunter’s plan is to find what works best for the talent and how fans react to it instead of shoving an idea and character down fans’ throats until it’s accepted.
There have been tons of reports about WWE talent feeling hopeful for the future and this will only lead to the company putting out an ever better product and bringing fans back into the fold.
