There are few names more iconic to professional wrestling than Diamond Dallas Page. Massively popular in the 90’s as a key member of the World Championship Wrestling roster, DDP is instantly recognizable by most wrestling fans. He really popularised the cutter as a finisher, setting the groundwork for Randy Orton to dominante with his version of the move, the RKO. However – they never got to cross paths in the ring, though DDP wishes that match could have happened.
Diamond Dallas Page Feels He Would Have Put On A Classic With Randy Orton
While speaking with another legend of the industry in Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts on the Snake Pit podcast, Diamond Dallas Page would have a chance to speak about Randy Orton. He’d be quoted saying the following.
“I would love to have a match with Randy Orton and I really wanted that to happen. He thought it was going to happen, which makes sense: RKO vs. Diamond Cutter. I would’ve loved it and I’d put him over in the middle and he’d kick out…It would’ve been a great match, we would’ve had some great promos. It would’ve been awesome to go do something with him because he’s the total package really.”
If You Want One Last Match, Orton Is A Safe Bet To Work With
Right now, Diamond Dallas Page finished up the in-ring portion of his career with one final match in All Elite Wrestling. While he looked solid in that match, and remains in stellar shape – he understands that not everyone is built like Sting, and can still go at a high level in the ring.
Despite this, if you were to choose someone to wrestle past your in-ring days, it’d be Randy Orton. He’s renowned as a safe worker, and someone who focuses on telling a story in the ring rather than bringing jaw dropping action. The story of RKO vs. Diamond Cutter alone could work in 2022, though this match would have been best had when Orton was known as The Legend Killer.
