With the recent news of Triple H being made head of creative and Vince McMahon resigning, it makes me wonder when exactly did McMahon and executives know that the allegations were going to be a major, career-ending legal problem.
When Exactly Did WWE Know That the Hush-Money Allegations Would Shake the Company?
These kinds of issues are not uncommon nowadays. As a matter of fact, it’s an odd year if there is no news of some sort of sexual allegations coming to light. In 2022, companies should do an annual scrub of their roster to make sure there are no skeletons in the closet. Older companies should just assume there are.
The point is that no company should be surprised in the 21st century when they’re confronted with this. No one is blindsided by allegations in this day and age except for the fans and possibly the peers in the industry.
As for WWE, the skeletons were always there but you probably didn’t know what they were or you had heard it before but like every other seedy story it disappeared with time.
Was Vince McMahon’s Match at WM38 Necessary?
The main reason I’ve pondered this is WrestleMania 38. It just seems like if Vince McMahon and those at the top of WWE we’re aware this could be a thing, it had to be late 2021 or early 2022. The allegations surfaced for everyone but resurfaced internally.
So his involvement at WrestleMania 38 was pretty much the last hurrah. It was his swan song. It wasn’t a beautiful swan song—it was more like karaoke by crows—but it was still a swan song. It was his last appearance at a WrestleMania as a performer.
Also significant was his involvement with Theory. Seeing how everything played out, this was basically giving what was left of a rub and goodwill from the viewing audience to Theory. That way, he leaves one last big superstar with his seal of approval.
Everyone is good with Theory and he’s not so much of a Vince Guy that he has to go as well. As for Vince McMahon, the man who created so many memorable moments and characters; the next time we might see him on WWE television is as a posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame or as a guest at the Hall of Fame.
So, maybe his final broadcasted match was necessary as it’ll leave the last best impression of him. It was definitely better than him coming out on WWE television and giving an awkward but knowing speech to the crowd which had nothing to do with what was going to happen on the show.
