Tony Nese & Josh Woods might have bitten off a bit more than they can chew here tonight at Grand Slam. They not only have the attention of ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe, but the TNT Champion Wardlow as well. These two titans will look to tear Nese & Woods apart here tonight – and even Mark Sterling might not be able to help them out of this situation.
Wardlow Gets The Chance To Finally Powerbomb Mark Sterling
WarJoe would waste no time getting into the fight, with Joe taking Nese to the floor as Woods traded strikes with Wardlow. A German Suplex would land, but Woods took time to taunt and was thrown with back to back belly to belly suplexes. Spinebuster would follow before a Cactus Lariat sent both men to the floor.
Joe & Nese would take the ring, with some jabs in the corner. Nese went for the dive, and Joe casually walked off the side to dodge. Joe took a chop to the throat, before the hotshot. Nese looked for a slingshot splash, but missed and was planted with the Uranage.
Joe would look for the Muscle Buster and landed it – and this one was over just like that. Right after the bell, Woods would keep the attack going – before a two on one attack. Wardlow seemed to have hurt his leg, but was able to hit a double lariat all the same. Sterling would end up trapped, and the powerbomb symphony from Wardlow would follow.
Jack Perry & Rey Fenix Bring The Speed
For the first time ever, we will see Rey Fenix take on “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry in singles action. Mostly known for their tag team work, Perry is looking to prove he can stand in the singles ranks while his feud with Christian Cage is put on hold – while Fenix looks to show his singles skills. This should be a clean match from both men, so we can see who truly is the better man.
Fenix tried to roll right into a cutter, but would be caught. Perry was put up to the top rope, but was unable to get the Black Fire Driver. Fenix was taken down with the diving headscissor, before a dropkick – but was able to come back with an armdrag. Perry & Fenix would trade strikes in the middle of the ring, with Fenix nailing the rebound hook kick before dropkicking Perry down to the floor.
On the floor, Fenix kept the pressure on – before looking for a submission in the ring. Perry was able to break free, but would be tripped and hit with a heavy handed overhand chop. In the middle of the ring, strikes would be exchanged – with Perry hitting the flying forearm smash. Big lariat would follow, allowing Perry to follow up with a brainbuster for a two count. Fenix would manage a cutter, spiking Perry – but being unable to follow up.
Christian Cage Sets The Trap
Perry would block a powerbomb into a hurricarana for a two count, before a thrust kick. Fenix would hit a forearm smash on the apron, but was unable to hit the powerbomb. Perry took a soccer kick to the face, but Fenix would roll into a cutter – and was caught from the sky with a kick.
Back into the ring, more strikes would be exchanged – with Perry’s chest practically purple by this point from the chops of Fenix. They’d kneel and strike, with Fenix urging Perry to bring the fight. The fight would be brought, firing the crowd right back up.
Perry would finally gain the upperhand in terms of striking, but would end up in the Gory Cutter – and barely kicked out before three. Fenix would take a powerbomb and rushing elbow smash, but still wasn’t enough to get the win. Three amigos would be attempted, but Perry hit a Cradle Shock for the two count.
Fenix would take Perry from the top rope, before hitting a frog splash. Black Fire Driver was set, but Perry blocked into a cradle pinfall – getting the victory! No shame in either man after this one. After the match, the music of Christian Cage would hit – and he’d come out, arm in brace… with Luchasaurus coming from behind to beat Perry down. Cage gave his final warning, do not come back again.
