Samoa Joe is back to work, and is ready to defend his ROH World Television Championship. However, one man who has never stopped putting in the work is Josh Woods – the former ROH Pure Rules Championship. Tonight, Woods looks to out grapple Samoa Joe in singles action, and take the TV title for himself.
On paper, Woods is bigger than Joe, stronger than Joe, and has the same submission skills. All he’s missing is the years of experience Joe carries with him, which is potentially all Joe needs to claim the win. Woods himself would admit that Joe influenced his style, and tonight intends to bring the fight to the fighting champion.
The Technical Beast vs. The Samoan Submission Machine
These two would both look to take the other to the mat as this match began – with Joe able to drive Woods into the corner. Woods would trade blows with Joe in the middle of the ring, giving as good as he got before Joe would fire up with the jabs. Woods would block the attempt at a headbutt, before attacking the arm over the ropes.
Tony Nese was at ringside to support Woods, and would get a yank on of the arm over the ropes behind the back of the referee. In the ring, Woods kept the pressure on the arm – cranking and stretching it on the mat. Joe was able to find his feet and rush Woods down with a shoulder tackle, before Woods was able to regain control in the corner.
Woods would take Joe back to the mat, before taking the snapmare and PK from Joe. Joe would miss the running elbow drop, and Woods looked to apply the cross armbreaker. Woods would be unable to apply the hold, but blocked an attempt at the Rear Naked Choke with a backdrop driver.
Samoa Joe Claims The Win
The Manhattan Drop, big boot & running senton combo from Joe would all connect, taking the breath away from Woods. A tight snap powerslam would follow, with Woods barely able to kick out. Muscle Buster would be attempted, but Mark Sterling & Tony Nese helped to save Woods.
A running knee to the jaw and a spin out knee strike from the shoulders of Woods would connect, but Joe was able to survive. Woods looked for a second go of this move, but Joe would block and hit the Uranage. Tony Nese was taken down – and Woods would fall to the Muscle Buster.
After the bell, Nese & Woods would attack Joe, before Wardlow would come to his aid. The TNT Champion would hit the ring, and Joe would capture the ankle of Mark Sterling, but Nese saved him from a powerbomb. For right now, they’re allies – but they might be rivals before long.
Would Samoa Joe survive a battle with Wardlow?
