At AEW Grand Slam, The Acclaimed would finally achieve their goal in AEW – and are now the AEW World Tag Team Champions. With Swerve In Our Glory still wanting a rematch soon, The Acclaimed can’t focus on them – as both Private Party & The Butcher and The Blade are going for gold here tonight. It’s a triple threat match with the gold on the line, a real test for The Acclaimed to start their reign.
The Acclaimed Get Isolated As The Match Begins
Bowens would kick things off alongside Kassidy, with them trading falls before Kassidy nailed a running hurricanrana. Bowens would throw a superkick, and Kassidy just dodged before a show of respect with a handshake. Caster would get the tag, and nailed a dropkick to the chest. A sunset flip would be blocked, with The Acclaimed hitting a neckbreaker/backstabber combo – before a leg drop to the groin.
Butcher & The Blade would insert themselves into the fight, by running down the champions and dragging Kassidy into a tag. SillyString attempt from Private Party would be blocked by Blade, before Bowens would be run down with a double headbutt. Bowens would be taken into their corner, where Butcher drove his knee into the jaw.
Blade would stop a potential tag to Caster, before Bowens would hit a stiff right hand to the jaw – and getting his eyes gouged as a response. They’d maintain control of the ring, before Bowens was able to nail a picture perfect superkick to the face of Blade. Butcher would take Caster off the apron before a tag could be made – before Bowens was launched with a back body drop.
The Gunn Club Wants Next
Marq Quen would tag himself into the match for the first time, before he’d hit a moonsault press on on Butcher, and a pop up dropkick to Blade. Private Party would hit Poetry in Motion on Blade, before looking for the finish with a Swanton/Neckbreaker combo for a two count – with Caster breaking things up.
Quen would be launched to the floor by Caster, before he’d be run down with a lariat. Combo backbreaker before Drag The Lake was attempted – but Kassidy was able to to fight to freedom. The Acclaimed would be able to tag in and hit The Arrival and The Mic Drop to win and retain.
After this match, Austin & Colton Gunn would say they’re planning to cut the line past FTR and challenge The Acclaimed for the AEW World Tag Team Championships – bringing the belts into The Firm.
