Earlier in the year, Chris Rock had a ton of goodwill and support after being the victim of a slap from Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars following a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith’s expense. Now, there is something of a turn against Chris Rock for using the murder of Nicole Brown Simpon in a joke about returning for the 2023 Oscars.
Chris Rock Experiencing Push Back After Nicole Brown Simpson-2023 Oscars Joke
During a Phoenix performance on August 28, 2022, Rock would tell the audience that returning as a host for the 2023 Oscars ceremony would be the same as asking Nicole Brown Simpson to return to the restaurant she dined at the night she was murdered in June 1994.
On social media, he was accused of misogyny and using women as the crux for some of his material. Others noted that maybe Rock had the slap coming for some time and that Will Smith should’ve smacked him harder.
An interesting note is Marlon Wayans sharing a video where brother Shawn Wayans did a Chris Rock impression at the 2000 MTV VMAs and began roasting attendees only to be beaten up when they rushed the stage.
When it was revisited earlier this year, the feeling was that Wayans predicted this would happen over 20 years ago.

Rock’s joke could also be seen as a weird case of “too soon.” Even though the murder occurred 32 years ago, for some it will always be too soon to joke about and the reaction will be more extreme than expected.
For others, the joke might be just viewed as tasteless or tacky as a violent murder was involved—one that held the headlines for years and still comes up now.
While Will Smith has been banned from the Oscars and there’s no risk of him getting smacked by Smith at an Oscars ceremony for a decade, that isn’t to say that someone else wouldn’t storm the stage and do the same because they caught a stray joke.
What do you think about Chris Rock’s joke? Harmless and everyone needs to chill? Or was it tasteless and the slap makes a little more sense now? Let us know down below!
