Over the past few years, one man has stood as the modern face of the National Wrestling Alliance, that being Nick Aldis. With a combined 1309 days as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, he’s proven his skills in the ring – but still has yet to reach his ultimate goal in professional wrestling. This is making it to WWE – and becoming a star there.
Nick Aldis Has Paid His Dues, Wants A Chance Within WWE
While appearing on The Kurt Angle Show, Aldis would speak about his 2017 Impact Wrestling exit – and what his goals were. Aldis would be quoted saying the following.
“It was time for me to move on. I wasn’t released. My contract expired and I didn’t sign another one. I was sort of ready to try something else. Truth be told, I wanted to see if I could get to WWE and still do. In my mind, I was like, I’ve paid my dues, I’ve worked with a lot of guys, I’ve done about as much as I can do”.
This might be the best possible time for someone like Aldis to find a foothold in WWE. He’s been able to prove himself reliable as a travelling champion for the NWA, and WWE are in the middle of reworking their presence in Europe, replacing NXT UK with NXT Europe. Aldis could have a chance to be one of the faces of the brand.
Many have felt that the main things holding Aldis back are a lack of charisma and a bit of an inflated ego, both of which could be helped in a place like WWE. The staff of writers in WWE are good at highlighting the best of a wrestler, which could do wonders for Aldis. It’s clear he’s interested, and clear that WWE are looking to rebuild their roster after a slew of releases over the course of 2020 & 2021.
Right now, Aldis has a contract with the NWA – having signed a new deal in January of 2021. He did not disclose how long this deal was for, and could be a free agent come 2023.
